Journey to Christmas

Nov 29th 2017

As we approach the end of November we prepare to walk to Journey to Christmas. Some ask the question “is there more to Christmas then I have been seeing?   As Christians we are told that we must prepare our hearts and minds for the season that represents the coming of our savior and Lord.  There is two aspects of journeying to Christmas both with a very spiritual meaning. Preparing for Christmas and the advent season is actually preparing for the coming of Christ the second time and is what we should all be doing each year at Christmas time. Preparing our hearts and minds for the coming of the savior. Not the first coming but the second coming.

It is also very interesting to take the spiritual journey to reflect on what the journey to Christmas was like that first Christmas. There was a Canadian TV program that was released on DVD that did just that. For five strangers, the Nativity is journey became reality.

The series was called “Journey to Christmas” and it was a fascinating series that invites everyone that watched it to explore Jesus’ birth through five modern-day explorers. Shot on ultra-high-definition film and packaged as a four-part DVD church curriculum, this unique study series chronicles the experiences of five very different people—a messianic Jew, a First Nations woman, a poet, a Christian radio personality, and an agnostic lawyer—as they journey through the Holy Land to discover the true meaning of Christmas.

Guided by a local historian (Nizar Shaheen) with on-camera commentary from a team of Bible experts (astronomer Dr. Hugh Ross, ancient history expert Dr. Paul Maier, archeologist and New Testament scholar Dr. Craig Evans, Biblical times culture expert Claire Pfann, and others), viewers will see the Christmas story unfold though the eyes of each member on this unique pilgrimage.

Journey to Christmas lets you immerse yourself in the culture, places, and people surrounding the Nativity. Stunning photography, a reality show format, exotic locations, and fascinating commentary from a team of Bible experts make this an unforgettable Bible learning experience!

Their Goal? To discover if there is more to Christmas than what we typically experience here in North America. Guided by a local scholar and other experts, those who are apart of the study watch as the Christmas story unfolds through the eyes of each member on this Pilgrimage as they search for Answers to their questions about the deeper meaning of Christmas.

In the time and place that we live many ask how do you make the story of Christmas come alive to a 21st Century audience?  That was the challenge that was faced in this Journey to Christmas documentary series. The Biblical Nativity story is rooted in history but for many in North America the crazy pace of Christmas festivities has drowned out the true meaning of Christmas.

We may have a few Christmas card images of Mary and Joseph traveling to Bethlehem, or Wise men riding camels en route to worship the King, but the ancient story is lost in North America’s focus on shopping, decorating and gift-giving.

So the makers of this series decided to take five people who had never been to Israel to the Holy Land asking “Is there more to Christmas than what we experience in North America?”

This Journey is what happens when you drop a singer, an artist, a youth worker, a talk show host and an agnostic with Jew and Christian heritage. Big Brother in a Bedouin Tent, Amazing Race on Camelback. An adventure that will change some of the participants forever. Perhaps it will change you, too.

This Journey to Christmas, for these five travelers, it’s like a modern-day caravan of wise men, following the light to find the truth about Christmas, and especially it’s central figure, Jesus.

For those watching it’s an invitation to join in on a spiritual Journey with life altering possibilities. After taking this journey you may not see your faith the same way when you reach the destination. Bethlehem! The city that means “House of Bread”.

The hope is that everyone’s Journey to Christmas will open their eyes to the light and help to feed their faith and come to the foot of the place Christ was. To accept Him into your heart and worship the King of the Kings.  Come start your Journey to Christmas
