Angels In Disguise

Nov 8th 2017

Have you ever felt like you have a guardian angel? Or like God has provided an angel to look out for you? Romans 8:28 says “We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”  God works in all things not just isolated incidents for our good.  Even when what we call bad things are happening in our lives God is providing the things and people we need to help turn it around to be to our benefit.  God is not working to make us happy, but to fulfil his purpose for us and our lives and those that are meant to come into our lives.  This is why we must also be aware of how God might be using us in someone else’s life. So we must be thinking of doing good deeds for the Lord.  Helping others. Making a difference in some way. Being a Good Samaritan.  There is a movement called  “Pay it Forward”.  Even a phrase that says “if you can’t pay a good deed back, pay it forward.”  For those who do not know where this comes from and have not  seen the movie “Pay It Forward”. It is a 2000 American drama film based on the novel of the same name by Catherine Ryan Hyde. It’s about a young boy who attempts to make the world a better place after his teacher gives him that chance. The movie stars Haley Joel Osment, Kevin Spacey, and  Helen Hunt.  The expression “Pay It Forward” is used to describe the concept of asking that a good turn be repaid by having it done to others instead.  By using “pay it forward” we can be Angels for God. Fulfilling his plan and purpose by helping others.  That concept makes me think of the song “Angel Among us” which was released by the musical group Alabama in  December1993. There is a line in the song that says “ I believe there are angels among us. Sent down to us from above. They come to us in our darkest hours.”  When life gets hard and we are faced with troubles and situations that we just can’t deal with ourselves, that is when we often will see the Angels among us, because someone comes along to comfort us, a phone call from a friend, a smile from someone. Even a kind word from a stranger. It’s at the dark times in our lives that someone comes along and offers us some light to see our way through our troubles. It may only be a single ray of hope and light, but it is enough to guide us and show us the way out of the darkness.  These Angels that are among us  show up in places and times that we never expect and they wear so many different faces that we might not even recognize them till we have time to look back and see what has been done for us.  Each of us has opportunities each day to be Angels for people. We can be the answer to someone’s prayer in their time of need.  This is when we are wearing the face of Christ and have an opportunity to be real Disciples of Christ. Jesus speaks to His disciples at the very end of the book of Matthew about the Great Commission, but it is words that we need to listen to and act on as well. Matthew 28:18-20 says;  “ All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go out and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surly I am with you always, to the end of the age.”  We each need to be Disciples of God that are Angels in disguise among His people each and every day. Doing the good works of the Lord and bring answers to prayers by changing peoples lives one good random act of kindness at a time.
